10 Great Online Car Resources

The Internet is a great place to research items or topics.  However, I’m sure you’ve all seen information that probably wasn’t quite true or was blatantly false.  I know, it’s hard to believe, everything on the internet is not true!  Due to some of the confusion out there, I thought it would be helpful to list 10 sites that provide useful, informative and accurate information.  Please consult these sites before buying your new or used car.

True Car (www.truecar.com)
This site provides information on all new cars.  It allows you to build a car and then see the dealer cost, invoice, average price paid and MSRP.

Edmunds.com (www.edmunds.com)
Here you can find information and reviews on new cars and used cars.  The site also provides an appraisal function for old car.  In my opinion, their quotes are closer to today’s market values than Kelley Blue Book.

Manufacturer’s websites
Don’t go here for pricing!  This is a good place to compare trim levels, build your car and see incentives in your area.

Car Gurus (www.cargurus.com)
This is an excellent site if you’re looking for a used car on a dealer’s lot.  They provide the current market value, how far above or below the dealer’s price is and how long the car has been on the dealer’s lot.  All of that is very useful when negotiating!

Autotrader and Cars.com (www.autotrader.com) & (www.cars.com)
Both of these sites are the go to place when looking for used cars.  Nearly all cars are listed on these 2 sites.  A couple others to check are eBay and Craigslist.

Edmunds.com – Incentive/Rebate calculator
This is a great tool!  Once you plug in the information, it will tell you if it’s a better decision to take the cash back rebate or low APR incentive.  It does all the number crunching for you.

Consumer Reports (subscription required) (www.consumerreports.org)
They are the leader in unbiased comparisons and ratings.  CR also provides a reliability rating for most used cars.

No explanation needed.  Don’t always trust the seller to provide all of the information on the car.

Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (www.iihs.org)
You can find all of the safety ratings for individual cars and how they compare to other cars in the same segment.

JD Power (www.jdpower.com)
Their name is synonymous with providing quality ratings.

I’m sure there are other sites that you’ve used.  Please comment and share with us the sites you like to use.
